Acting on Emotion Results in Poor Decisions

If you quit your job because of your emotions, you will most likely regret your decision. Whether you’re having a bad day, disagree with your co-worker or don’t get along with your boss, take time to calm down and separate your feelings from the facts. For example, consider what your options are and what consequences they may have. You may be able to reach an agreement with your co-worker or learn to put aside your differences while interacting with your boss. Perhaps you can move to another role or company location.

Companies want to know that you are able to work through difficult situations and will ask you to give examples of this during the interview for a potential new job.  The interviewer will want to know about a difficult situation you were in, what your actions were to resolve it and what the final results were after the problem was solved.  Working through these issues can help the team work better together in the future!

Hiring Managers Are Looking for Candidates with Current Skill Sets

Hiring managers will know that your skills and experience are current and applicable to the role, so that your learning curve won’t be as great. Also, discussing why you left your job may be challenging if it was based on emotion rather than planning. If you suddenly quit your job, managers may see you as being difficult to work with or likely to make irrational choices and decide not to hire you. In addition, you may be viewed as a job hopper if you quit before securing another position.
